The Secret to unforgettable Memories

The author of The Little Book of Hygge and Lykke, Meik Wiking, has written another charming book called The Art of Making Memories.

And it's the perfect book to read before the start of the new year. After reading this practical and inspirational guide to making memories, I've set myself a goal to have more unforgettable memories.

"If we want life to slow down, to make moments memorable and our lives unforgettable, we may want to remember to harness the power of firsts." - Meik Wiking

It's no wonder we feel time speed up as we get older. When we are young, we experience a lot of firsts. Taking our first steps, saying our first words, the first time going to school, or even your first kiss.

But the older we get, the fewer firsts we have. We've done so much already that it's challenging to do things for the first time still. But if we go out of our way to try new hobbies, taste new dishes, or maybe even travel to new places, we still get the power of firsts.

So, what firsts are you going to be trying out in 2024?

Mine will definitely include traveling. We're visiting Fuerteventura in January. But also trying out new hobbies and finding new ways to be creative. Bungee jumping, snowshoeing, and getting a tattoo are still on my bucket list!

We remember when we pay attention - and we pay attention when we are present, engaged, committed, when what we see and process is meaningful to us.

If you reflect on the past year, you'll likely remember the big moments only instead of the routine days—the milestones we reach, like getting married, starting a new job, or celebrating your birthday.

It's because they mean something to us. And this can be different for everybody. If you don't care about birthdays, you might not remember them, but for me, I LOVE celebrating my birthday!

This year, we went to the Veluwe in the Netherlands, where we rented an old Land Rover (dream car!) and had a fantastic time driving around. The forest is my happy place, so I'm grateful I spent my birthday roaming around and enjoying the Autumn colors!

So I definitely recommend this book if you want to focus next year on making more unforgettable memories.
